Chinese judge: Apple did not copy iPhone 6 design from Baili
Apple has not copied the design of the iPhone 6 from the Baili 100C. That has been decided by the Chinese court. This means that a judgment by the patent office of the Chinese capital Beijing is off the table.
The Beijing Intellectual Property Court ruled in Apple’s favor on Friday in a case over the design of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The Cupertino company has not infringed Baili from Shenzen’s design patent, according to the South China Morning Post’s verdict.
In the summer of last year, the Beijing patent office came to another conclusion. That agency thought the iPhone 6 looked too much like the Baili 100C smartphone. Consumers would struggle to tell the difference, which would be to Baili’s disadvantage.
Because Apple filed a case against the patent office’s judgment, there was no sales ban in Beijing at the time. If the Beijing court’s decision went against Apple, there was a risk that the manufacturer would have to defend itself against Baili’s claims in more Chinese regions.
