‘Chinese go champion wants to compete with AlphaGo this year’
Eighteen-year-old Ke Jie, who heads the current ranking of go players, wants to compete with AlphaGo. Earlier, the young player said he does not want to play against Google’s artificial intelligence because he does not want the computer to copy his style.
The international go federation has reported to the Chinese news agency Xinhua that Ke Jie will play against AlphaGo later this year, gbtimes writes. The federation is said to be in talks with the Google team and both parties would like the match to take place. ArsTechnica requested confirmation from Google; to which a spokesperson for DeepMind replied that the team is investigating the next steps for AlphaGo, but that it cannot announce anything at the moment.
In March, AlphaGo won four of the five go matches it played against grandmaster Lee Sedol. After AlphaGo won the first game, Ke Jie said that his game is stronger than that of artificial intelligence. After the computer had won three games in a row against Lee Sedol, Ke Jie admitted that given the same circumstances, there is a good chance that he too could lose.
