Chinese factory starts production of large electricity generating windows
A Chinese factory has started production of windows with built-in solar panels measuring 1.6 meters by 1.2 meters. According to the company, these are larger electricity-generating windows than competitors currently make.
The new CNBM Optoelectronic Materials factory with an automated production line of 560 meters in length is also the largest factory in China producing windows for electricity generation, according to China Daily. The manufacturer coats standard glass with a layer of cadmium telluride with a thickness of one hundredth of a human hair.
The glass plates measuring 1.6 by 1.2 meters could generate 260 kWh per year. According to the company, the largest sheet of glass that competitors manufacture is currently 0.72 square meters in size. Among other things, the plant has received an order from Ford Motor, which plans to use the panels for its factories worldwide. In addition, the factory makes glass plates for a housing project in Scotland and for projects in several Chinese provinces.
