Evans Hankey, the chief designer at Apple, is leaving the company. Apple has confirmed this to Bloomberg. No replacement has been named yet, but Hankey is said to remain in her position for another six months.

apple confirms to Bloomberg that Hankey is leaving. It is not clear why she is leaving the company. The chief designer announced her departure from the company earlier this week. Evans does not immediately stop her work. She will remain with Apple for the next six months, the company says. What Hankey will do next is not yet known.

Hankey became the head of Apple’s product design division three years ago. She took over that position from Richard Howarth, who held the position from 2015 to 2017. Hankey became chief designer shortly after the departure of Jony Ive, who had then started his own design agency LoveFrom. By then, Ive had worked for Apple for 27 years, including designs for the iMac in 1998, iPod in 2001, and iPhone in 2007.

During Hankey’s time as chief designer, the iPhone models 12, 13 and 14 and the MacBooks with Apple’s M1 processor appeared on the market. How much influence the chief designer had on the designs of the devices is not entirely clear. Apple had a partnership with LoveFrom and was the company’s main customer. That partnership ended earlier this year.
