Checkra1n releases jailbreak for Apple Homepod speaker
Developer team Checkra1n has released a jailbreak for the Apple HomePod speaker. It is the first time that the smart speaker from the American manufacturer has been cracked and the jailbreak has to open the door to run software that Apple does not allow.
Checkra1n reports the support in the new version 0.12.1-beta, where it is in the release notes. “Partial support for the original HomePod.” This is the first Homepod from a few years ago, not the recently released HomePod mini. It is not yet possible to jailbreak.
The partial support refers to the fact that it only works via command-line. A jailbreak may eventually make it possible to use the HomePod as a regular bluetooth speaker or to use services that Apple does not support. It is unknown if and when this happens. The Checkra1n beta only works on macOS and Linux and not on Windows for the time being.
