Cheapest Samsung phone with 5G would run on MediaTek-soc

The Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, the cheapest 5G phone that the manufacturer is working on, is said to have a MediaTek Dimensity 720-soc. Samsung rarely uses MediaTek socs in its smartphones and has never used a Dimensity series soc.

That the phone has a Dimensity 720, would appear from a Geekbench listing. MediaTek’s Dimensity series are socs that have a modem with 5G support; the 4G socs usually belong to the Helio series. The Galaxy A31, for example, has a Helio P65 on board.

The Dimensity 720 pairs two ARM Cortex A76 cores and six A55 cores in an octacore arrangement, with all cores running at a maximum of 2GHz. The GPU is an Arm Mali-G57 MC3, with which the soc can control a maximum 1080p screen at 90Hz. The A32 5G would have 4GB of RAM of unknown type; the soc supports maximum lpddr4x memory at 2133MHz.

It is not the first time that data about the A32 5G has been released. A few weeks ago, renders came online from the phone. The phone also appeared in an FCC inspection. This showed, among other things, that the device has NFC on board. In addition, the South Korean manufacturer makes the device itself and does not use an ODM for the production of the device.

Samsung usually also releases its Galaxy A phones in the Benelux. This would be one of the first 5G phones with a MediaTek soc. Only Oppo used MediaTek socs for a 5G phone so far, the Reno4 Z 5G. Almost all 5G phones in the Benelux so far have socs from Qualcomm, Samsung, Apple or Huawei.

The A31 was released in June and cost 299 euros upon release. That device can now be found in the Pricewatch for € 189. It is also not yet known when Samsung will release the A32. The manufacturer will release a few other devices in the Galaxy A series in January. Galaxy S21 phones are also expected around that time.
