Charging iPhone 12 mini with MagSafe is slower

It is not possible to charge the iPhone 12 mini with 15 Watts via the MagSafe charger. In the case of the 12 mini, MagSafe delivers a maximum of 12 Watt, Apple indicates in a new one Support document.

iPhone 12 mini and MagSafe

On the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the MagSafe charger can reach a maximum of 15 W. The iPhone 12 mini charges a little less quickly. The mini does have a smaller battery, so whether you will notice anything in practice is still the question. Most people will put the iPhone on the charger in the evening before going to sleep and it will be charged in the morning anyway.

Instructions for MagSafe

Apple provides some more important instructions for the MagSafe charger in the relevant document. The intention is that you first plug the charger into the socket, and only then put the iPhone on it. If you do it the other way around, the charger cannot reach the maximum speed of 12 or 15 Watt. When in doubt, remove the iPhone from the MagSafe, unplug it and plug it in properly. Furthermore, charging is limited to 7.5 W if you have connected Lightning accessories to the iPhone, for example EarPods.

MagSafe is Apple’s first wireless iPhone charger. Thanks to magnets, you click it exactly in the right place on the iPhone 12. Other iPhones can also be charged wirelessly with it, but they do not click into place and therefore slower speeds are achieved. There are also other MagSafe accessories that you can snap onto the iPhone 12 magnetically, such as card holders and covers.

When will the iPhone 12 mini come out?

The iPhone 12 mini will go into presale this Friday, November 6, and will be in stores exactly one week later. The same goes for the largest and most luxurious model, the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The other two new iPhones have been in stores for several weeks.
