CD Projekt RED will end support for Gwent on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One starting next week. The game will no longer be updated on consoles and it will no longer be possible to purchase items with real money. Players can transfer their profile.

The developer is ending support for the console version because the iOS version of Gwent was recently released and the Android version is on the way. CD Project RED wants to focus on those versions and the PC version. Most of the Gwent players use those platforms and also maintaining the console versions is too much work according to the company.

Gwent players can transfer their progress to a new or existing GOG account. Both the PC version and the mobile version use those accounts. Starting Monday, players will be able to transfer their console account via a website. Merging Gwent accounts is not possible, so it will only work for GOG accounts that have not progressed in the game yet.

Players of the console version will have six months to transfer their account to GOG. Coming Monday, CD Projekt RED will release an update for the console version of Gwent that will essentially freeze the game in its current state. The game will continue to run in that form until June 9, 2020. Expansions and updates will no longer be released and it will no longer be possible to purchase items with real money. From Monday it will no longer be possible to play against players on other platforms with the console version.

Gwent started out as a card game in The Witcher 3. The standalone version was officially released in late 2018. The console versions appeared a year ago. The iOS version was released at the end of October and the Android version will follow in the first quarter of next year.
