CD Projekt Red sells 25 million copies of The Witcher games
CD Projekt Red has sold a total of more than 25 million copies of The Witcher games. That has been announced by the studio. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt contributed a lot to that, but the studio did not give current sales numbers of that game.
The number of more than 25 million sales spans the period from the launch of The Witcher in 2007 through the end of 2016, reports Adam Kiciński, president of CD Projekt. In early March last year, the studio announced that The Witcher 3 had sold nearly ten million copies. CD Projekt did not provide an update on that number, but the Polish company did speak of “continuing good sales” for the game and its two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Those good sales have ensured that The Witcher 3’s sales since its release in May 2015 have exceeded one billion Polish zloty, or 237 million euros. The company recorded a net profit of 61 million euros in 2016.
According to Kiciński, the good results mean that the studio can focus on new projects, such as the upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 and Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. The beta for that card game, which has its origins in Wild Hunt, starts March 31 for the PlayStation 4. There will also be a Witcher tournament, with a prize pool of $100,000.
