Cyberpunk 2077 will not be available on April 16, as CD Projekt RED announced in June of last year, but on September 17. The developer is delaying the release in order to further improve the game.

CD Projekt RED makes the postponement, among other things known via Twitter, with an explanation. The company reports that it needs more time to further polish and perfect the game. “We’re now at the point where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done,” said Marcin Iwiński and Adam Badowski, co-founders and studio heads, respectively, at CD Projekt RED. They promise to publish more updates on Cyberpunk 2077’s progress as the release date gets closer.

Due to the size and complexity of the game, more time would be needed to test, fix and polish. The new release date has been reported five months later than last June and more than two years after CD Projekt RED showed the first footage of Cyberpunk 2077 behind closed doors at E3 2018. The game’s very first announcement dates back to 2012.

Many major games are delayed. For example, Bethesda and id Software announced in October last year that Doom Eternal would not be released on November 22, 2019, as previously stated, but on March 20, 2020.
