CD Projekt RED is working on an online mode for ‘all future games’
CD Projekt RED is not yet sure if there will be a standalone multiplayer game for Cyberpunk 2077. The online component will probably be in the game itself, but also in future games, the CEO of the developer says.
Initially, CD Projekt RED planned to release a multiplayer version of Cyberpunk 2077 as its future triple-A title, ie as a standalone game. Plans are different now, CEO Adam Kiciński said in an update on the game’s roadmap. Instead, Cyberpunk 2077 will get an integrated multiplayer mode, although details about that are not yet known. “We want to implement good online elements in our games where it makes sense,” says Kiciński. That’s why the company is ‘rethinking’ what it wants to do with multiplayer.
The new plan is to create one new technology for online multiplayer that can then be “used across all our franchises,” the CEO said. “We are building an online technology that can be implemented in the development of all our future games.” In addition, CD Projekt RED also shows images of The Witcher. That may indicate that multiplayer could also be in the upcoming new Witcher game.
