Polish developer CD Projekt Red has released system requirements for action-RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game requires at least an Intel Core i5-2500K at 3.3Ghz or AMD Phenom II X4, as well as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or an AMD Radeon HD 7870, and 6GB of RAM.

CD Projekt Red, the Polish development studio behind the The Witcher series, announced the system requirements on Wednesday. The requirements are logically a lot higher than those of predecessor The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which already appeared for PC in May 2011. The minimum system requirements are higher than those of several popular games such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Shadow of Mordor, but can be compared with those of Dying Light, Far Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

In addition to the specifications already mentioned, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt requires PC gamers to use a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows 8 or 8.1. In addition, the game requires DirectX11 and 40GB of free disk space. Those requirements are the same for the recommended system requirements, but there CD Projekt Red presents stiffer hardware requirements. For example, an Intel Core i7-3770 of 3.4Ghz or an AMD FX-8350 of 4Ghz is recommended. The GPU should be no less than an Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 or an AMD Radeon R9 290, while 8GB of RAM is recommended.

The system requirements do not mention a Linux version of the game. The possible existence of that version came out in June 2014, when Steam announced that the Witcher 3 would be coming to Linux-based SteamOS. The lack of SteamOS or Linux in the system requirements seems to indicate that that version will not be ready when the other versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt appear.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the third installment in The Witcher trilogy. Once again, the Witcher Geralt of Rivia is central to the game. While on a personal quest to stop the bloodthirsty Wild Hunt, Geralt is also involved in the impending war between the Empire of Nilfgaard and the Northern Kingdoms. Both storylines are expected to reach their climax in this third installment. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in addition to PC, and is scheduled for May 19.
