CCP pulls plug from mmog World of Darkness
Developer CCP stops developing World of Darkness. According to the director of CCP, the game did not live up to expectations. As a result, more than 50 employees from the American studio that worked on the mmog will lose their jobs.
The decision to stop working on World of Darkness was “one of the hardest I’ve ever had to make,” according to CCP director Hilmar Veigar Petursson. Still, the director of the Icelandic company, which is known for mmog Eve Online, has decided to scrap World of Darkness and lay off the 56 employees who worked on the game in Atlanta, USA. The game did not live up to expectations, according to CCP. “I am very sorry that we were not able to make the experience we hoped for,” said the director. The hopes of a mmog in the World of Darkness universe are not entirely gone. Veigar Pétursson promises fans of the game that he will “make it right one day.”
The World of Darkness mmog has a long history. It started in 2006, when CCP took over American White Wolf Publishing, the publisher of several books and paper RPGs in the World of Darkness universe. CCP immediately announced that there would be a World of Darkness mmog. In fact, the preparatory work on the mmog has already begun. The game should be on the market within 5 years. CCP wanted to base the mmog on Vampire: The Masquerade, a 1991 paper RPG from White Wolf, also set in the World of Darkness universe. That RPG was previously the inspiration for Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption, a game that was released by Activision in 2000.
