CCP Games is working on a mobile version of Eve Online
Eve Online creator CCP Games has announced that it is working with another party on a mobile variant of its space game. The game, called Project Aurora, should be released in a number of countries soon. The full release will follow in 2018.
The Icelandic studio announced at its Eve Vegas event that it is working with PlayRaven on the new title, which will be released on Android and iOS. It is a free game set in the Eve universe. Like Eve Online, it’s an MMO. The game is slated to release in a “small number of territories” soon, with full release next year.
CCP Games producer Sam Barton said the game is a “compressed version of Eve Online for mobile devices,” VentureBeat wrote. It wouldn’t have a story, but there would be references to the lore in it. For example, players have to look for certain relics. According to Barton, that was a conscious choice, because it is more difficult to tell a story in a mobile game.
The massive space battles from Eve Online will not appear in the game, as there is a limit to the number of players that can be present in the same system. However, this is still being experimented with at the moment. According to Barton, the limit is intended to reduce the sense of anonymity that results from the presence of too many players. The game should attract a range of players, not just Eve Online fans.
