The release date for the Resident Evil 2 remake was announced during the Sony presentation at E3. The game will be released on January 25 next year for PlayStation 4, as well as for Xbox One and PC.

Capcom writes that it is a complete remake of the original game from 1998, of course with the necessary visual improvements and new mechanics. Capcom uses the RE Engine, which it also used in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. The developer also speaks of an ‘over the shoulder’ perspective, which gives the impression that the gameplay is more like Resident Evil 4. The game takes place again in Raccoon City.

According to Sony’s announcement, there are new areas to explore and players must solve a variety of puzzles. The story revolves around Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, a novice police officer and a college student respectively. Both characters have a separate storyline in the campaign mode. The trailer shown during the presentation does not show any gameplay footage.

Capcom announced in the summer of 2015 that a Resident Evil 2 remake would be coming, but hasn’t shared any information since.
