Capcom removes split-screen mode from Resident Evil 5 on port to Steam
Gamemaker Capcom has extracted the code for the game’s split-screen mode when porting the Games for Windows Live version of Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition to Steam. The game didn’t officially support the mode, but it could be activated with a mod.
When it was released on Steam, it turned out that the split-screen mode does indeed stop working, but Capcom confirms the removal in a changelog that is still among the game’s files. The lack of mode came up in a topic on Neogaf.
In a statement to Eurogamer, Capcom said the code removal was necessary for the game to work properly with later released DLC Untold Stories Bundle. The co-op mode on the PC version was clearly not intended to be released. Although the game could function with two controllers, the connected keyboard of the PC then controlled both characters at the same time.
Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition recently came out on Steam and is a game that came out five years ago. The game was previously released for Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live platform.
