Capcom Introduces Optional In-Game Ads in Street Fighter V
Capcom has introduced in-game advertising in the latest Street Fighter V update. This can be turned on and off. However, when the ad is turned off, players will not receive additional Fight Money, the in-game money that can be used to purchase DLC.
The update went live on Monday. It was already known what the update would bring, but now it also appears how Capcom is shaping the advertising. The ad appears to be for Capcom’s Pro Tour event, among other things. It appears on three CPT-themed stages, on the match loading screen, and on the character’s default skins. Except for the Pro Tour, there is a lot of advertising for the DLC.
If players keep the ad enabled, they will get 4 Fight Money per ad. This can give players a total of 12 FM per match, even if they are not playing on a Pro Tour stage. There is a different kind of FM for that that can only be earned through a Pro Tour internship.
In a forum discussion about the in-game ads on ResetEra, the users ridicule the ad. They call the Pro Tour logo and its placement “ugly.” For example, some users are baffled that Guile’s signature tattoos of the American flag are being replaced with the Pro Tour logo.
