Canonical introduces Ubuntu 22.10 with new quick settings menu
Canonical has released version 22.10 of Ubuntu. That is an interim release instead of an lts release, but it does have the latest updates. Gnome 43 comes with quick settings, and the Nautilus file manager has been updated and can open .webp files.
In the new quick settings menu, users will find the default settings to expect there: network, bluetooth, battery status, power mode, dark mode, airplane mode, volume and more. The Gnome developers came up with this new feature a month ago and it is now included in this Ubuntu release. The application spread, a multitasking tool, is also back.
This version, called Kinetic Kudu, can count on nine months of support from Canonical. Furthermore, the Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.19 and the Nautilus file manager supports opening .webp images out of the box. This application has also been given a responsive design that adapts the layout to the size of the window. The same goes for the Settings app. The text editor has also received a facelift.
Also included is the new Steam snap, which should perform better, and PipeWire is the replacement for the PulseAudio sound server, which should allow for wider compatibility with audio hardware.
