Canon working on PowerShot G1 X Mark III
Canon has been awarded a bluetooth certificate for the PowerShot G1 X Mark III, a camera that has not yet been announced. The Mark II version of the device dates from 2014 and, just like its predecessor, it was a compact camera with a relatively large sensor.
No details are yet known about the new PowerShot G1 X Mark III. The Japanese Nokishita blog discovered that the model number is mentioned on the bluetooth website. This indicates that the device will have wireless functions. Canon probably combines bluetooth with wifi, to set up a connection between a smartphone and the camera.
The first Canon PowerShot G1 X dates from 2012, and a new model followed two years later, with minor changes. Both cameras have a zoom lens and a 1.5″ sensor. This makes the sensor significantly larger than the 1″ format used, for example, in the Sony RX100 series. Canon later also switched to the 1″ format for other models of the advanced PowerShot cameras. It is not clear whether Canon will again opt for a 1.5″ sensor in the PowerShot G1 X Mark III.
