Canon has unveiled a new mirrorless camera. The EOS M10 is positioned below the EOS M3 and is in many ways similar to the M2, which only appeared in Asia. Together with the camera, Canon presents a compact 15-45mm kit lens with image stabilization.

The EOS M10 is presented as a new entry-level model in Canon’s series of mirrorless cameras. The device has the same 18-megapixel aps-c sensor as the Canon EOS M2. However, that camera only appeared on the market in Japan. The chip uses the Hybrid CMOS AF II system, which combines contrast autofocus and phase-detection focus on the sensor. The ISO range runs from 100 to 12,800 and can be digitally scaled up to an equivalent of ISO 25,600. You can film in 1080p resolution with 24, 25 or 30fps. A Digic 6 image processor takes care of the image processing. The maximum shooting speed is 4.6 fps, while maintaining continuous autofocus.

Compared to the M2, Canon has adjusted the housing of the EOS M2 on a number of points. The small handle on the front has disappeared, and the new model no longer has a hot shoe. However, the EOS M10 has a built-in flip-up flash, which the M2 does not have. The 3″ touchscreen has a resolution of 720×480 pixels, but is no longer stuck in place. The screen can be folded up to 180 degrees with a hinge. Wifi and NFC are built into the camera.

Together with the EOS M10, Canon introduces a new kit lens: the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. Thanks to a folding design, the lens is a lot more compact than the 18-55 mm that Canon previously supplied with its system cameras. Other manufacturers, including Nikon, Sony and Pentax, have been supplying compact collapsible kit lenses with their cameras for some time. The 15-45mm also offers more wide angle; with a crop factor of 1.6x, the lens delivers a full-frame equivalent of 24-72mm. The lens is equipped with image stabilization and a stepping motor that should ensure fast and quiet autofocus.

The EOS M10 costs 509.99 euros including kit lens. The new 15-45mm lens can also be purchased separately for 319.99 euros. Separately, the EOS M10 costs 384.99 euros. The new products will be launched in November.
