Canon announces two new compact cameras in the PowerShot series. Like its predecessor, the G7 X Mark II has a 1″ sensor and 24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 lens, but a new design and faster processor. The SX720 HS is a small travel zoom camera with 40x optical zoom.

Canon has changed the look of the PowerShot G7 X, the G7 X Mark II looks a bit more angular and has a larger handgrip for better grip. Also, the 3″ LCD now tilts down instead of up. The dial around the lens, with which settings can be adjusted, can be set on the new model so that it ‘clicks’ or rotates without resistance.

In terms of specifications, the compact camera is largely the same as its predecessor, with the exception of the new Digic 7 image processor. According to Canon, this makes the camera much faster. In RAW, the camera shoots at a maximum of 8fps. The 1″ sensor with 20.1 megapixel resolution and the zoom lens that has a range of 24mm to 100mm in full-frame equivalent are unchanged. The G7X Mark II films in full HD resolution at up to 60fps and has internal Wi-Fi and NFC The compact camera will be available from May for a suggested retail price of EUR 699.99.

The PowerShot SX720 HS gets more optical zoom compared to its predecessor. The device has a small 1/2.3″ sensor with a resolution of 20.3 megapixels and a Digic 6 image processor. The zoom range corresponds to 24-960mm in 35mm equivalent. The lens has an aperture of f/3.3-6.9 and Canon sells the SX720 HS from March for a suggested retail price of EUR 379.99.
