Canon introduces EOS R7 and R10 cameras with APS-C sensor
Canon introduces two mirrorless cameras in its EOS R series with an APS-C sensor. The EOS R7 with stabilized 32.5-megapixel sensor is a successor to the 7D SLR. The EOS R10 is a more compact and cheaper model with a 24.2-megapixel sensor without stabilization.
The Canon EOS R7 and EOS R10 are the first cameras in the R-series with an APS-C sensor. Earlier models are equipped with a larger full-frame sensor. Canon already made mirrorless cameras with an APS-C sensor, but placed them in the lower-positioned M series.
Both the EOS R7 and R10 have a shooting speed of up to 15 frames per second when using the mechanical shutter. With the electronic shutter, that goes up to 30fps with the R7 and 23fps with the R10. The cameras use Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus technology, just like the more expensive EOS R3 camera. The autofocus can track animals, people and vehicles.
Canon EOS R7
Canon provides the EOS R7 with a stabilized image sensor. According to the manufacturer, this yields a maximum profit of eight stops. The R10 does not have image stabilization in the housing. Both cameras film in 4k with a maximum of 60fps, but the cheaper R10 does not use the full sensor. At 4k30, both cameras use the full sensor width for oversampling while filming.
The cameras have an OLED viewfinder with a resolution of 1024×768 pixels. The tilting 3″ LCD on the back has a resolution of 900×600 pixels on the R7. On the R10 it is 720×320 pixels. The R7 has a larger housing and uses the same batteries as the EOS R5 and R6. The R10 has a smaller one. battery, which Canon previously used in its budget DSLRs.The R7 has room for two SD cards, in the R10 only one. Both cameras have a USB-C and Micro HDMI connection.
Canon EOS R10
Canon will release the cameras in June. The EOS R7 has a suggested retail price of 1520 euros and the R10 costs 1000 euros. Along with the cameras, Canon is releasing two APS-C zoom lenses: the RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and the RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. They cost 360 and 580 euros respectively.
