Canon EOS M5 mirrorless camera gets built-in viewfinder
Photos have appeared online of the EOS M5, an unannounced system camera from Canon. The images make it clear that it is the first EOS M to have a built-in viewfinder. The sensor would be the same 24.2-megapixel chip as that in the EOS 80D.
The EOS M5 not only gets a viewfinder, but also more physical buttons than the previous models from the EOS M series. On top of the camera are several command dials. One of them has a ‘dial func’ button, which can probably be used to adjust the function of the relevant wheel.
Nothing is known about the resolution of the electronic viewfinder. The camera will receive a 24.2-megapixel sensor, according to leaked information, presumably the same chip as in the Canon 80D DSLR. The specifications also speak of a Digic 7 image processor, a shooting speed of 7 fps, full HD video at 60 fps and 5-axis electronic stabilization. That stabilization may only work when filming; it doesn’t seem to be about physical sensor stabilization. The device weighs 427 grams.
The photos and specifications have been put online by the Japanese website digicame-info, which regularly publishes information about cameras that have not yet been announced. Canon will probably announce the EOS M5 in the near future and the device will be exhibited at the Photokina photo fair in Cologne at the end of September.
