Canon EOS-1D X Mark II photos and specifications appear online

Photos of Canon’s new professional SLR camera have surfaced online. The EOS-1D X Mark II is likely to be announced soon and will get a new 20.2-megapixel sensor and 4k movie function, according to leaked information.

The photos, which have been put online by digicame info, show that the housing of the EOS-1D X Mark II has changed little compared to the current model, which came on the market in 2012. In terms of specifications and capabilities, the Mark II is likely to bring significant improvements. According to information published with the leaked photos, the camera will receive a new 20.2-megapixel sensor with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, which improves autofocus when using live view. The maximum shooting speed would be 16fps.

The camera would also be able to film in 4k resolution at 60fps. That is striking, because Canon released a more expensive version of the EOS-1D X for film makers. The EOS-1D C with 4k movie function cost 12,999 euros at the launch, double the 1D X, which can only film in full HD. It cannot be said for sure whether the specifications mentioned are correct, but the Japanese website has a good reputation when it comes to leaking correct data and photos from cameras that have not yet been announced.

Canon will compete with the Nikon D5 with the EOS-1D X Mark II, which was announced at CES at the beginning of January and will be on sale from March. The new top model from Nikon also has a 4k movie function, but with a maximum frame rate of 30 fps.
