Candy Crush developer raises money for vr mobile games development
Resolution Games, a studio that focuses on developing VR mobile games, has secured $6 million in investments from Google, among others. The director of Resolution games, Tommy Palm, was previously the director of Candy Crush operator King.
Resolution director Tommy Palm told Re/code that the biggest challenge is getting the general public to virtual reality, and that’s where their mission lies. The studio’s first game, Solitaire Jester, has only been downloaded 4,000 times, according to re/code. Nevertheless, the company continues to develop mobile games that use VR in recognizable contexts. For example, Resolution’s next game is a fishing game. Candy Crush for Android has between 100 and 500 million installs, according to the Play Store.
Investors are apparently confident that Tommy Palm can achieve similar numbers with Resolution Games’ VR games. At the moment, the studio only develops for the Samsung Gear VR, but other platforms are not excluded in the future. Palm thinks the Gear VR is best suited for the mainstream at the moment. The Samsung Gear VR ‘Innovators Edition’ is already available now, and the mainstream version for the average consumer should hit the shelves later this year.
