Canary version of Chrome gets a new look in the run-up to release redesign

The Canary test version of Chrome has been given a new look. The move indicates that Google plans to release its browser redesign for the stable version of its browser in the coming months.

The new look is enabled by default in Chrome Canary for Windows, macOS and Chrome OS, reports François Beaufort. The new look brings several changes to the appearance of the tabs and other interface elements. Google would internally refer to the redesign as ‘Material Design 2’.

The design change can be activated since April by converting a flag in Chrome Canary. Canary is the version that Google releases for the beta. Usually, the release of a version like Canary and the stable version is about two months, so the release of this feature would be around September.

The new design is apparent from the use of shapes and colours, among other things. For example, with the new design, the texts on tabs are blue instead of black, while the tabs themselves have a new shape. Buttons also have a different shape. A click on the lock to see a site’s SSL certificate shows an oval button, instead of a rectangular one.
