Canalys: only Huawei gains ground in Chinese smartphone market
Huawei has significantly increased its lead over the competition in the Chinese smartphone market, analysts firm Canalys has calculated. The manufacturer now holds more than 42 percent of the market.
Deliveries of Huawei smartphones grew by 66 percent compared to a year ago, claims Canalys. The analyst firm says competitors will struggle to put pressure on Huawei. The manufacturer not only makes smartphones, but also manufactures modems for 5g smartphones and has good ties with providers through the supply of 5g equipment. “Huawei is in a strong position to further cement its dominance.”
Competitors Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi lost ground in the Chinese smartphone market and each saw their market share decline by more than 20 percent. The same goes for Apple, which delivered 28 percent fewer smartphones in China. According to Canalys, the American company shipped 5.1 million smartphones in China.
The situation is different in the global smartphone market. Samsung is the market leader there, although the manufacturer is virtually absent in China. Huawei is the number two worldwide, followed by Apple and Xiaomi.
