The global PC market will grow by approximately eight percent by 2024. That’s what Canalys says. According to the analytics firm, a Windows refresh and the proliferation of Arm computers and PCs that can run AI applications locally will drive more demand.

Canalys believes that the global PC market will increase by five percent during the fourth quarter of this year. This comes with it according to the agency ending seven consecutive quarters of decline in PC shipments.

According to Canalys, the increase will be attributable to the expected refresh cycle of Windows, the rise of computers with an Arm processor and the rise of PCs with support for AI applications. As for expectations about Windows, Canalys does not share any further details.

“The impact of AI on the global PC industry will be profound,” says analyst Ben Yeh. “Major players, including OEMs, chip manufacturers and the companies behind operating systems, will bring new products to the market that can handle artificial intelligence,” it said. “These initiatives will create renewed demand, especially in the commercial sector.” According to Canalys approximately nineteen percent of all PCs shipped in 2024 will contain components specifically aimed at running AI applications locally.
