Canalys: Chromebook market grew by 75 percent in one year
In one year, Chromebook sales increased by 75 percent. This is what analysis agency Canalys says in a report. With that, the Chromebook segment is outperforming the global PC market, which grew 10 percent. The sale of tablets also seems to be stagnating, according to Canalys.
The American HP remains the market leader in the Chromebook segment in the second quarter of 2021 with 36.4 percent, compared to 29.5 percent last year. HP sold last quarter according to Canalys 4.32 million Chromebook devices. Lenovo sold 2.5 million Chromebooks during the second quarter of this year and saw its market share increase from 20.8 percent last year to 21.6 percent this year. In third place is Acer with 1.8 million Chromebooks sold and a 15.7 percent market share compared to 15 percent in the same period last year.
“Chromebooks’ success continues,” said Brian Lynch, analyst at Canalys. “After all, governments and education systems want to integrate these devices in the long term. Because Google has acquired a stable market position in the education field, they will do everything they can this year to also make a big commercial impact,” it sounds.
Apple remains the market leader in the tablet segment. The tech giant from Cupertino reportedly sold 14.1 million tablets last quarter and achieved a 36.3 percent market share with this result. That is several percentage points less than the 38 percent market share that the company was able to claim last year. Samsung is doing a lot better on the tablet market according to Canalys. The market share of the South Korean company rose to 20.5 percent last quarter. Last year it was 18.7 percent. Lenovo ranks third in the tablet market. The Chinese company had a market share of 7 percent last year, now it is 12 percent.
Lenovo has nothing to worry about in the global PC market either. The company achieved a market share of 19.7 percent during the second quarter of this year. Last year it was 18.1 percent. Apple takes second place with 18.1 percent compared to 16.7 percent last year. HP has the third largest market share in the global PC market. The American company serves 15.8 percent of the market. In 2020, this was still 14.7 percent, according to Canalys.
