Camera module for Moto Z smartphones gets ten times optical zoom
New photos have surfaced online of the camera module for the Moto Z smartphones. The photos confirm the rumors that the module will have a Hasselblad logo and show that the lens has ten times optical zoom.
One of the photos, spotted by website moto3g, shows the front camera module and shows its key specs. Next to the text ’10x optical zoom’ it is stated that the lens has a range of 4.5 to 45mm. The largest aperture in the wide-angle position is f/3.5 and when zoomed in at most, it is f/6.5.
It is not yet known how large the sensor of the camera module is, but due to the compact design, it is likely that the sensor is quite small. Combined with a 1/2.3″ size sensor used in many compact cameras, the range would be equivalent to 25-250mm in full-frame equivalent.
Even before the introduction of the Moto Z and Moto Z Force, images of the Moto Mods appeared, which also showed a camera module. There were already rumors that Motorola would make the camera module in collaboration with Hasselblad and now that the logo can be seen in the photo, that seems to have been confirmed. It is not yet clear what the exact influence of the camera manufacturer on the design is. It is probably an agreement whereby Motorola may use the Hasselblad brand name on the module.
The camera module for the Moto Z smartphones will probably be officially presented during the IFA fair. Lenovo is holding an event on August 31 where it will make new announcements. Perhaps the Moto Z Play smartphone, where photos have already appeared, will be announced.
