Call of Duty World League gets $3 million prize pool
Activision is launching a new segment for competitive Call of Duty players: Call of Duty World League. With the e-sports tournament, the company wants to persuade hardcore players and the casual gamer to participate, ultimately culminating in the Call of Duty Championship itself.
The new tournament will consist of two different levels: the Pro Division and the Challenge Division, Activision writes in a press release. The participants in the World League will compete for a place in the Call of Duty Championship where Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be played, which will be released on November 6 this year.
The first Pro rounds will be held in January 2016 in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Challenge Division will be “a pathway for the amateur and aspiring pro players to compete against each other to improve their prowess in the game,” Activision said. The winning teams of the Challenge Division can earn a place in the Call of Duty Championship by participating in a series of official lan events.
The $3 million prize pool will be split across a number of different events, including the lan events and the Call of Duty Championship itself. That will be the fourth Call of Duty championship since the championships started. The last championship had a prize pool of $1 million.
