Call of Duty veterans work with new studio on PlayStation exclusive
Deviation Games, a studio founded and led by two Call of Duty veterans, is working on an all-new PlayStation game on behalf of Sony. Substantive details about the game have not yet been announced.
Deviation Games was founded by Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell. The former was the director, producer and writer of several Call of Duty games. He worked on the first Call of Duty in 2004, Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010, and Black Ops II in 2012. Blundell started out as the producer of Call of Duty 3, the game that came out in 2006. He later served as the game director for Treyarch, the studio behind the Black Ops games.
According to PlayStation Studios CEO Hermen Hulst , the new studio will be working on a ‘groundbreaking’ new AAA title. The two founders of Deviation Games say they have assembled a team of 100 developers to work on the game. Substantive details about the game are not yet known, but Anthony and Blundell have both worked exclusively on shooters and that seems to be where their expertise and predilection lie.
Sony recently indicated that the PlayStation 5 will get more exclusives than previous PlayStation consoles. The company also said it would invest an additional $152 million in game development. Sony also includes investments in studios such as Deviation Games.
