Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 releases on October 25 and requires an internet connection
Activision Blizzard will release Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25 for Xbox One, Series X and S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC. The 'spy action game' will also be released directly for Xbox Game Pass. The game always requires an active internet connection, even on consoles.
The campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set in the early 1990s, shortly after the Cold War. The game is set in Southern Europe, the United States, the Russian tundra and the Middle East. The reveal trailer features several well-known CoD characters, including Black Ops veteran Frank Woods and Cold War character Russell Adler. The single player mode is developed by Raven Software.
The single-player campaign, like all other modes, requires a permanent internet connection. According to a blog post from Activision the internet connection is required to enable texture streaming. In other words, some of the textures are loaded via the internet and not from the local game files. According to the Xbox sales page of Black Ops 6, the game nevertheless requires 309.85GB of storage space. The product page on the other hand, the official website mentions 149GB of storage space. It's not clear what the final game size is.
Treyarch provides the multiplayer mode, which according to promotional material includes sixteen new maps and a new mode. The game will have a zombie mode again; the developer is calling it the return of “Round-based Zombies.” There will be a Hunter versus Hunted PVP mode. Black Ops 6 also introduces a new movement system that allows players to dive and slide in all directions. Once on the ground, players can turn in different directions.
The companies promise that there will be a free open beta for all platforms before the release, although it is not yet known when.
