Button indicates rapid arrival of video calling in WhatsApp

Video calling with WhatsApp seems to be possible soon. In a beta version, the call button in the chat service includes the option to choose between an audio or a video call. However, the video feature is not yet operational.

The website whatsappen.nl discovered the new function in an Android beta version of WhatsApp and showed some photos. Although WhatsApp itself has not provided any further information, it seems that video calling should be available soon. Although this concerns the Android version, it is likely that apps for other operating systems will also be able to communicate via video.

When pressing the call button in a call, an audio connection is currently established via VoIP, but in the future the user will then be given the option to choose between audio or video. If you try that now in the most recent beta version, you will see a message that setting up a video call has failed, because the feature is not yet available.

There has been talk of introducing video calling in WhatsApp for some time now. Since last year there have been rumors that the chat service would be working on it.
