Bungie temporarily disables chat in Destiny 2 after actively exploited exploit
Bungie has temporarily disabled Destiny 2’s in-game chat altogether after an exploit was found to crash opponents’ game. Disabling the chat feature applies to all platforms and the developer is working on a fix.
By sending a specific text, players could crash each other’s game during pvp matches, such as details PC Gamer. The text was sent to specific players via the whisper function, after which the game crashed in front of the target due to a error message. The exploit was among others by a unofficial Destiny twitter channel reproduced. In this way, malicious Destiny 2 players could forcibly beat the opponent since the latter was no longer present.
Bungie therefore has all available forms of the for all platforms this weekend in-game chat disabled. This means that the general chat, fireteam chat, local chat, team chat and whispers are temporarily no longer possible. It is not yet clear how long the chat function will remain disabled. Bungie will have a on August 1 maintenance update plannedbut it is not known whether this should fix the exploit.
