Bungie has admitted that players of the PC version of Destiny 2 have been unfairly banned. According to the developer, these players can now play the game again. Bungie denies that the bans were related to the use of software with overlays.

In a message that Bungie put online on Wednesday evening, the developer initially denied that players had been incorrectly banned. The article was in response to many complaints that appeared right after the release of the PC version. Users said they were banned almost immediately, which players have associated with using software with overlays, such as Fraps, Afterburner, and Discord.

In the message, Bungie said 400 players had been banned and that they were all justified. A few hours later, the developer added an update stating that a group of players was also wrongly banned. Those players should be able to play the game again in the meantime. There are users on Reddit who are indeed reporting that their ban has been revoked.

It is not clear how many players have been unfairly banned. Also, Bungie does not explain what went wrong. The developer does say that there is no automatic process that bans the use of software with overlays. Such software is not supported by the game and will not work in the game, but attempting to use programs such as Fraps, Afterburner, Discord, Xsplit and OBS has no consequences.
