Bundle of four remastered Sonic games launches June 23 for PC and consoles
Sonic Origins releases June 23 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation consoles. The bundle includes four Sonic games originally released for the Sega Mega Drive. Sonic Origins was already announced last year, but there was no exact release date yet.
The bundle contains remasters of Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD and will cost about 40 euros. Sega also has announced a deluxe version of Sonic Origins for 45 euros. This version includes more difficult missions, animated characters in the main menu and exclusive music tracks from the Sonic games of the Mega Drive. There is also a pre-order bonus for both versions of Sonic Origins, which gives you 100 coins and includes a mode where you can play mirrored levels.
The game’s release date coincides with the blue hedgehog’s 31-year anniversary. The very first Sonic game was released on June 23, 1991 for the Sega Mega Drive. It became the best-selling video game of that year. By the end of 1991, 2 million copies of Sonic the Hedgehog had been sold worldwide.
A year later, Sonic 2 was released, which introduced Sonic’s sidekick Tails. Sonic CD appeared in 1993 and could only be played when the Mega Drive was equipped with the Mega-CD expansion. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a combination of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, both of which came out in 1994. The cartridge from Sonic & Knuckles contains an adapter, to which a Sonic 3 cartridge can be connected.
