Broadcom introduces chipsets for WiFi 6e 6
Broadcom has announced a series of new chipsets that support the Wi-Fi 6e extension for 802.11ax and can use the 6GHz frequency band. The manufacturer has provided customers with samples of the chipsets.
Broadcom has announced four Wi-Fi chipsets for home networking devices and four for the enterprise market. The most extensive of these have support for 4×4 channels and use a channel width of 160MHz.
The chipsets support WiFi 6e announced by the Wi-Fi Alliance over the weekend. This is an extension of the 802.11ax protocol that allows the use of the 6GHz frequency band for connectivity, in addition to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
Wi-Fi equipment can use a total of 1.2 GHz in the 6 GHz band, for example with up to seven channels with a width of 160 MHz. This should bring higher speeds, lower latency and higher capacities.
