British Royal Mail can no longer send international mail due to a ‘cyber incident’
The British postal service Royal Mail can no longer send letters or packages outside the United Kingdom due to a ‘cyber incident’. The company therefore asks customers to temporarily stop sending foreign mail to their mailboxes. It is not clear whether this is a cyber attack.
Computer systems for sending letters and parcels abroad have been ‘severely disrupted’, a Royal Mail spokesperson has said against BBC, among others. The organization says it has started an investigation and is looking into the problems together with the National Cyber Security Center. The NCSC falls under the British cyber intelligence service GCHQ.
The company is currently talking about a ‘cyber incident’, because it is not yet clear what is going on. A cyber attack cannot be ruled out. The Royal Mail sends two hundred thousand parcels abroad every day. Mail to the United Kingdom can still be sent, although the service warns of delays. Domestic mail would be undisturbed.
