British film production company wants first film studio in space by the end of 2024
British film production company Space Entertainment Enterprise plans to operate the first film studio in space by the end of 2024. The inflatable SEE-1 module is being built by Axiom Space, will initially be docked to the International Space Station and will have a diameter of six meters.
According to the manufacturing company, the SEE-1 module will be paired with the Axiom Station by the end of 2024. This is a future experimental space station being developed by Axiom Space, a space company selected by NASA in early 2020 to build private modules for the ISS. The Axiom Station will be expanded via hubs from 2024 to be definitively disconnected from the ISS in 2028.
The inflatable SEE-1 module has a diameter of approximately six meters, according to Axiom chief engineer Michael Baine. According to the company, artists, producers and creatives can create content in it and that in space. Space Entertainment Enterprise did not provide details in the press release about how much a stay in the SEE-1 module should cost. The company says it is currently in talks with investors and commercial partners and plans another fundraising event in the future.
According to various American media, Space Entertainment Enterprise will participate in the film that NASA is making in collaboration with American actor Tom Cruise. Those plans were first announced in 2020. Little is known about the film itself. According to Deadline, it is the first full-length film with a story to be shot in space.
At the beginning of October 2021, a film was already shot in space. Then cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov, director Klim Shipenko and actress Yulia Peresild were flown into space to shoot the film Вызов or ‘Challenge’. That was the very first movie shot in space.
