Bredaas hospital cancels appointments and operations after network failure – update
The Amphia hospital in Breda has been suffering from a major telephony and internet failure since Friday morning. The hospital is forced to change appointments and cancel operations.
The outage, according to the hospital, started at 05.15 in the morning and caused many problems throughout the day. Among other things, Amphia was unreachable by phone on Friday. Employees also had limited access to patient records and other data.
The hospital had to cancel appointments and treatments in the outpatient clinics and new appointments had to be made for many planned operations. Emergency operations on patients who had already been admitted did continue. For other emergency care, the hospital directs patients to the ETZ in Tilburg or Bravis in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom.
About sixty operations have been canceled at Amphia’s largest branch, BN de Stem reports. Amphia is not yet making any announcements about the cause. Nor can the hospital say when the problems will be over. In recent years there have been regular problems at hospitals due to IT and network failures.
Update 18.28: The hospital has been operational again since 6 p.m., a spokesperson said. He is not yet able to say anything about the exact cause of the malfunction. This will be investigated in the near future.
