Brave broke the 15 million monthly active users barrier in May. That marks a fifty percent growth since November, when version 1.0 of the privacy-focused browser appeared.

Compared to a year ago, the number of monthly active users has more than doubled, Brave reports. In total, the browser maker registered 15.4 million monthly active users and 5.3 million daily active users in May. A year ago, 2 million internet users used Brave every day.

Brave is an open source browser based on Chromium that blocks ads and trackers by default. In addition to versions for Windows, Linux and macOS, there are mobile variants for Android and iOS. Users can donate cryptocurrencies to websites that support it, in the form of bats, or basic attention tokens.

Brave makes money from advertising campaigns for the desktop versions. Users can indicate via opt-in that they want to see advertisements. In exchange, they get bats, which they can then donate to sites. Brave reports having completed 1530 campaigns for Brave Ads in one year. That counter stood at 400 campaigns last October. In addition, since February, Brave has 25 campaigns for Sponsored Images, showing users advertisements on new tabs.
