BQ takes pre-orders for Ubuntu phone Aquaris E5
Spanish manufacturer BQ started taking pre-orders on Tuesday for its latest Ubuntu phone, the Aquaris E5 HD. The device is sold for about two hundred euros including VAT.
This is apparent from a web page that was put online by BQ on Tuesday. The latest Ubuntu device can be ordered on it from the European Union, Norway and Switzerland. The orders are not yet processed; that is expected to happen from June 22.
The Aquaris E5 is not completely new, because there is already an Android equivalent of the same device. The specifications are therefore almost the same. For example, the phone has a 5 “HD screen with a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels. There is also a 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. Under the hood, the E5 continues to run on a quad-core. -Cortex A7-soc and Mali 400MP2 GPU.Finally, the device features 16GB emmc flash storage, a micro-sd card connection and 1GB ram.
In contrast to the Android variant, the most recent Aquaris has Canonical’s operating system Ubuntu. The British software manufacturer unveiled it about two years ago. Canonical wants to use the OS to group content from various sources and display it clearly on pages, such as a combination of videos from the phone, YouTube and Vimeo. Recently, a major software update appeared, including an improved browser.
BQ has been supplying phones with Ubuntu for some time, such as the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition. That is an entry-level model with a quad-core Cortex A7-soc, 8GB storage, a micro-SD slot and a 4.5 “screen with a resolution of 960×540 pixels. The housing of the phone, which has recently been bought by everyone , consists entirely of black plastic.
