Box launches beta for Office 365 integration

Cloud storage service Box has announced a beta that allows Office 365 users to open, modify and save files directly from the office software. The functions work from Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Box’s integration into Microsoft’s office software is available in beta and usable by users with an Office 365 subscription and Office 2010 or newer running Windows 7 or later. According to the cloud storage service, anyone who installs the new software has immediate access to the new functions, which can be found in the Office menu. It is possible to directly open files stored in Box in Word, Excel and Powerpoint. It is also possible to immediately save files in Box after editing.

In addition, Box will add new features to its Notes functionality, allowing users to gain insight into previous versions of saved notes, among other things. It will also be possible to annotate documents stored within Box. According to Box, more than a hundred different file formats are supported.

Box also announced a new service for businesses with Workflow. The business software is mainly intended for exchanging and working together on documents. By accessing the Box API, companies can also develop their own applications on top of the Workflow software.
