Bosses in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided can be defeated verbally
Patrick Fortier, who works as gameplay director at Eidos Montreal on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, says that the various bosses in the game can be defeated in different ways. Not only fighting, but also by sneaking past or talking to them.
Fortier and writer Mary DeMarle discuss the boss clashes in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided in an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine. Fortier states in the interview that the team at Eidos Montreal “wants to support all different styles of play” in such confrontations. According to the gameplay director, this means that the bosses can sneak past, can be eliminated and that players can start a conversation with them to settle the confrontation.
Fortier admits in the interview that precisely that freedom of choice was missing in predecessor Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The studio admitted after the game’s release that it had the boss clashes in Human Revolution developed by an outside studio. A year and a half after Human Revolution came on the market, publisher Square Enix therefore released the Director’s Cut of the game, in which the boss fights were replaced. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released in the first half of 2016 for Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
