Bose sues Beats over noise-cancelling functionality in headphones

Bose is suing Beats for the noise canceling functionality it uses in its products, according to American media. Bose claims that a pair of Beats headphones infringes five patents.

This concerns the Beats Studio and Beats Studio Wireless headphones, as The Verge writes on Friday evening. According to Bose, Beats is infringing an unknown number of patents related to noise cancellation, a technology that aims to reduce environmental noise. Bose demands insight into Beats’ accounts and wants compensation for the alleged patent infringements. The electronics manufacturer also wants to see money for the costs necessary for the lawsuits. Both Bose and Beats have not yet formally responded to the allegations. Beats came into the hands of Apple at the end of May, which acquired the headphone maker for $3 billion. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. It seems unlikely that the current patent case will delay the acquisition.
