Bose announces portable smart speaker with a handle

Bose has announced the Portable Home Speaker. This is a smart speaker with support for voice assistants, Bluetooth and WiFi, which has a handle and a battery life of twelve hours.

The Portable Home Speaker offers 360-degree audio reproduction is 19 centimeters high and weighs about one kilogram. The speaker is splash-proof based on the ipx4 rating but does not have an auxiliary input, like the Bose Home Speaker 300 and 500. It is the first smart speaker from Bose with a battery. The capacity is unknown, but according to the manufacturer high enough to last for twelve hours at full volume. In standby mode, the battery life is twenty-four hours. Full charging can be done in four hours via the included USB-C charger.

The speaker works via Bluetooth and WiFi. With the latter, the user can use the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, in addition to the Bose Music app. There is also support for Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2.

If you are afraid that the microphone will pick up unwanted conversations, you can switch it off with a physical button. There are also buttons for media control and enabling the assistant. The Bose Portable Home Speaker will be released on September 19 for 349 dollars, converted and with VAT that is 381 euros. For $29, the user gets a charging stand. In addition to the Portable Home Speaker, Bose’s range of smart speakers consists of the Home Speaker 500 and 300 and the Soundbar 700 and 500 soundbars.

Bose makes its announcement a week before Sonos is reportedly announcing its portable smart speaker with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The details and photos of that Sonos Move recently appeared.
