Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands gets crossplay across all platforms
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is getting crossplay across all platforms, including the PlayStation consoles. Crossplay was not possible in previous Borderlands games. So this is the first Borderlands game where console and PC gamers can play together.
Gearbox president Randy Pitch writes in a tweet that crossplay is supported on all platforms. In his message, he emphasizes the PlayStation. In a later message asks Pitchford for understanding of any crossplay issues at release† “We’ve put a lot of effort into enabling crossplay and making it as user-friendly as possible, but this is new to us.”
Last year, Gearbox said that the PlayStation versions of Borderlands 3 were going to support crossplay. The developer had to withdraw that promise by order of Sony. The reason behind that was never disclosed. Earlier, the lawsuit between Epic Games and Apple revealed that Sony will claim a portion of the revenue if players play cross-play games primarily on a PlayStation console. It is possible that Gearbox and Borderlands publisher 2K Games have not teamed up with Sony because of this. It is not known what agreements have been made to enable crossplay on the PlayStation versions of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
The Borderlands spin-off will be out March 25 for current and previous generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles. A PC version is also coming to Steam and the Epic Games Store. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland features a story campaign and supports co-op for up to four players.
