“BOE wants to take 95” OLED panel with 8k resolution into production’
The Chinese screen manufacturer BOE would like to produce a 95″ OLED panel with 8k resolution. The panel could be used by TV manufacturers, but it would be a limited edition. BOE recently showed the panel at a trade fair.
The 95″ panel is of the Woled type with white OLEDs and is said to have a peak brightness of 800cd/m² and can display 99 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. The refresh rate of the panel is 120Hz. Sources of market researcher DSCC say that BOE wants to actually put the 95″-8k panel into production. DSCC is known for its reliable sources in the display industry.
The Chinese manufacturer BOE makes many small OLED panels for smartphones and tablets, but also has a research facility where larger panels can be made. BOE would like to use it for the production of the large panel. The yields of the large BOE panel are said to be ‘not bad’. It is not known whether TV manufacturers have expressed interest in the panel.
LG Display was until now the only manufacturer of such large OLED panels. The screen manufacturer has had an 88″ 8k screen in its range for a number of years. LG Electronics makes TVs based on it. LG introduced a 97″ 4k OLED TV this year. It will receive a prize of 25,000 euros. That is comparable to the introductory price of the 88″ 8k OLED TVs.
