Bloomberg: Sony releases new PSVR headset after PlayStation 5 launch
Sony is going to release a new PlayStation VR headset, according to Bloomberg. That will happen after the PlayStation 5 comes on the market, so presumably in 2021. The site also reports that the production costs of the PS5 are 415 euros.
Sources report, according to financial news agency Bloomberg, that Sony is working on the new PSVR, but details are not yet known. At the beginning of April last year, when Sony announced the first details about the PlayStation 5, the console builder already said that the new model would be compatible with the existing PSVR headset.
Sony will release the PlayStation 5 during the holidays at the end of this year. If the VR glasses come later, it will probably be sometime in 2021. Bloomberg also reports that the production costs of the PlayStation 5 are currently $ 450, converted about 415 euros. Sony would struggle to keep costs low, due to fluctuating prices of nand and dram.
In 2013, Sony released the PlayStation 4 for 400 euros. Production costs at the time were $381, according to IHS Markit. At the presentation of the quarterly figures at the beginning of this month, Sony said that the price of the PlayStation 5 is not yet fixed. According to Bloomberg sources, Sony also wants to wait and see what Microsoft will ask for the Xbox Series X. Microsoft will probably announce more details about its new console during E3 in June. Sony is not coming to that show.
